Come arrivare

How to get there
The Mengozzi Mill is located in Fiumicello, a small village a few kilometres from Premilcuore. Along the trail that leads on the edge of the River, take the street on the right before the Church of Madonna delle Nevi.
The Mengozzi Mill is located at the beginning of the nature trail in Fiumicello, a path to discovery human works that have shaped the landscape, not far away from Premilcuore. It  is a stone mill with the roof covered with slabs, as typical in this area. The mill is very important because it is unique in our area, then a precious testimony to our history and culture. The mechanism of mill is based on a horizontal wheel with wooden spoon blades, operated by the movement of the waters of the river. At the mill were milled wheat and, separately, chestnuts and certain minor cereales.
After World War II the Mengozzi mill was modernized with a turbine to produce electricity, but in 1963, due to the abandonment of mountain areas and traditional rural activity, it was abandoned. Mengozzi family back in 1993 decided to carry out a careful restoration of the structure and its mechanical parts, thus the mill has started running and now it is possible to visit and witness the milling of wheat flour or dried chestnuts. The building consists of three floors: the basement is the turbine, a waterwheel with scoops to half-spoon oak wood; upstairs a tree transmits the motion to two large millstones, which pass the flour of wheat and chestnuts, which are conveyed to the flask, a stone container.
The top floor is intended for private family environment.

THE CRAYFISH
The crayfish or Astacus Astacus  is a native crustacean, belonging to the family Astacidae, similar in appearance to a sea cricket, who lives in pure water and well oxygenated, streams, fresh water rivers and canals, and reaches its maximum development around three years, when it comes to the length of about 7/10 centimeters and weighs 90 grams. It is greenish-brown color, but the cooking takes a reddish coloration. Primarily nocturnal, the shrimp feed on plant material, molluscs, insects, fish and amphibians. Today the crayfish freshwater is very popular as gastronomic specialities, tasty meat, but the unmistakable flavor of shrimp fishing is strictly forbidden as it is a species in extinction, then protected. Water pollution and especially the spread of Aphanomyces astaci, micete species originating in the United States, which proliferates in compromised environmental situations, has spread lethal diseases to Astacus, that he then inserted into IUNC Red Book of invertebrates. For this reason you can enjoy crayfish exclusively sourced from specialized farms.
